Curriculum

Our aim is to provide a curriculum that enables all students to enjoy and achieve during their time at The Oakwood Academy as well as meeting all statutory requirements. We have a responsibility to prepare our students for further education and for life and work in a fast-changing and challenging world.

At Key Stage 3 (Years 7 - 8) students will study:

Geography Physical Education 

During year 8 we advise students about their options for education between the ages of 13 and 19, and undertake career planning activities. We invite parents to be part of the decision making process.

 

At Key Stage 4 (Year 9 - 11), all students continue to study:
 
English (and English Literature) Physical Education (non-examined)Science
Mathematics Religious Education At least one additional Ebacc subject
  
Students then have the opportunity to select four subjects from the following options:  
   
Art (GCSE)Drama (GCSE) Physical Education (GCSE)
Business (GCSE) Geography (GCSE) Product Design (GCSE)
CIDA*Health & Social Care (BTEC) Religious Education
Computer Science (GCSE) History (GCSE) Spanish (GCSE)
Dance (GCSE) Music (GCSE & BTEC)  
   
* CIDA (Certificate in Digital Applications) 
 

Students who achieve the appropriate qualifications to study A-Levels will, at 16, be able to transfer to the Redhill Sixth Form Centre. Click here for more information about the Sixth Form at The Redhill Academy.

The Oakwood Academy identifies those students who are gifted and those who show talent in particular areas. The school ensures Gifted and Talented students receive the appropriate enrichment and extension activities to ensure that they are challenged and inspired to achieve their potential.
