There has never been a better time to start an apprenticeship, young people can ‘get in and go far’ with an apprenticeship at some of Britain’s biggest and brightest companies. They can gain the skills and knowledge they need to succeed, in some cases up to degree level, while working and earning.
Higher and degree apprenticeships are widening access to the professions and providing higher level technical skills needed to improve productivity and giving young people an equally valid career route as going to university. There are currently 75 higher and degree apprenticeships available from levels 4 – 7, with more in development.
For young people not quite ready for an apprenticeship, or a job they can boost their career prospects with a traineeship. It’s an opportunity to gain real work experience, job skills and improve their English and maths, if needed.

The Skills Show 2015
The Skills Show, the nation’s largest skills and careers event, runs from Thursday 19 to Saturday 21 November at the NEC Birmingham. The show offers more careers, further education and training experiences than any other UK event. Offering hundreds of different industries to explore, visitors can try job-related skills across a huge range of careers, such as hospitality, plumbing and web design.
Careers advisers are on-hand to provide up-to-date information about the routes into vocational careers, from university to apprenticeships, and colleges are available to discuss their opportunities and courses. There is also a dedicated apprenticeship stand.
New to this year is the Future Skills Zone which highlights what skills will be in demand for jobs in years to come, useful for every student and teacher needing to keep up-to-date with the changing workforce needs. The ever popular Staff Room will continue to offer a place for careers professionals to attend careers seminars, share experiences, chat to advice providers and gather free take-away resources.
