Geography

Geography is currently taught by:

Miss Lewis - Subject Leader Geography
Mr Wood - Geography Teacher / Director of Virtus House

In Geography we study the earth's landscapes; peoples, places and environments. It is, quite simply, about the world in which we live. Geography is unique in bridging the social sciences (human geography) with the natural sciences (physical geography).

We are committed to introducing our students to the practical aspect of the subject by providing field work opportunities from Year 7 all the way through to GCSE.

These opportunities add a lot to the understanding they have gained in class and prepare the students for the demands of coursework at GCSE which Geography remains a popular choice with our pupils.

The Key Stage 3 Geography Curriculum is designed to consolidate and extend students’ knowledge of the world’s major countries and their physical and human features. Students will develop greater understanding and competence in using geographical knowledge, methods and perceptions and use geographical skills in analysing and interpreting different resources. This will allow students to develop and continue to enrich their understanding of the world and the impact humanity makes.
Each half term we focus on a different topic which is assessed at the end of the half term.
  • Year 7 Topics – UK Tourism, Tourism Abroad, Urbanisation, Sport as an Industry and Energy
  • Year 8 Topics – Disaster, Water, Eco-Systems, Shopping and Brazil
